The 2021 version of the 1963 American version is an Open University reprint of research commissioned by the Institute of Race Relations based upon the 1961 Population Census examining the participation of West Indian immigrants into the religious life of London. Although the Windrush Generation had been invited and arrived here back in 1948 and large numbers had followed only 7% were attending the same churches here in London compared with 79% back home. Discussion follows on some of the reasons and social consequences for this.
Background History
Clifford Hill’s first church coming out of college was in Willesden, West London where many immigrants had settled and where he pioneered ministry included active involvement in this local community including many broadcasts back to the West Indies. In 1962 he visited the West Indies as a guest of the Jamaican High Commission in the year when Jamaica gained its full independence when the West Indian Federation disintegrated,
