The book is sub-titled ‘The Love of God in the Message of the Prophets’ drawing particularly on Hosea. The life and work of the Prophets of Israel which is foundational to the New Testament and to the mission of Jesus and the Apostles is largely unknown to most Christians today. This Hebraic background to the New Testament was lost soon after the Apostolic Age when Greek and Latin concepts became dominant. How did the Prophets discover so much about the nature and purposes of God? How did they learn, like Jeremiah, to stand in the 'Council of the Lord' and to get into the 'secret place of the Most High'? How did the Prophets discover the 'unbreakable love' of God that prepared the way for the coming of Jesus.
This book is about the great shaking of the nations which was taking place at that time. It gives relevance and urgency to its central message which is very timely.
